Reeking Havok is a group of artists who came together to bang on our craft an defy the rules.  We arent only in defiance of the "rules, we exemplify the exceptions. We do this for fun, for self-enrichment and for the enjoyment of others. It is true and exact.. it is an artform.  Some people may say "Haunt" media isn't truly "art".  We disagree. You have creation in writing, set building, character creation, scare developement... its a mecca of art!

 

In a recent discussion, it was debated what is required to have "art".  The best definition was the creation of something unique.  The birth of something into the world that didn't exist before the moment of it's creation and doesn't appear as anything seen before.  That is a perfect example of what we do individually and  as a group.

When we began in 2009 we played on the cliche and recognizable format using characters of horror fandom everywhere. It took us one season to realize that was not the place we wanted to stay.

From our second season, 2010, we forged a path of uniqueness and individuality, sometimes to the detriment of time and simplicity (insert laughter here).  We had a vision and we accomplished that dream, we obtained our goal, creating what was once only in our minds. That is art.. That is success! While we enjoy visiting neighboring haunts, (WE LOVE THE HAUNT COMMUNITY!) we were careful to always leave other haunts creative ideas at their venue.  It is the Haunter's Creed.  Imitation is the highest form of flattery, so to find your art copied in another haunt is the highest praise! But who wants to BE the haunt that takes another's ideas and put them into their haunt? Certainly not us!

 

What can possibly be better than to know you did it first?  And so we did!  Our goal was to create in ways that have never been created, to discover scenarios that have never been imagined, to be a true "Horror Haunt" that cannot be experienced anywhere else. From our storylines to our characters, we are one-of-a-kind horror at it's finest.

 

In August 2009, future founders of Reeking Havok created and designed a grassroots haunt located in Max Meadows, Virginia. In spring, 2013, these "core" veterans and many future core team veterans turned in their resignation as the vision of their dream departed from the vision of the venue's Hospitality Director.

 

Today, we strive toward our individuality and embrace our twisted nature, continuing to develope and create unique haunt art with verifiable success! In 2013 you will find our actors in many of our neighboring haunts and at many of the local Fall Festival Events and producing AWESOME horror themed events as Reeking Havok!
